The ICO exists to empower you through information.

The Sandbox is now open to take on new participants. If you would like to submit an expression of interest for participation we will assess it and will endeavour to respond within two weeks of receipt. However, it should be noted that this target is subject to change depending on the amount correspondence we are currently receiving.

Please submit all completed Expressions of interest to [email protected] no later than 31 December 2023.

Please mark up any sections that are confidential. Please do not use web-links or signpost to further information.

By submitting this form you are confirming that you have the necessary authority to submit and that the content is a true and accurate representation.

EOIs will be considered on a ‘first come first serve basis’, and once our existing spaces have been filled, successful applicants may be placed onto a waiting list.

We will notify all applicants about whether or not we intend to progress your submission. We hope to be able to notify each organisation in early February, however this timescale is dependent upon the volume of EOIs which we receive. If the team consider that your proposal aligns with our current regulatory areas of focus, a member of the Sandbox team will get in touch to arrange an engagement call with you to discuss your proposal in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need sign-off by my organisation’s director to participate in the Sandbox?

Yes, we ask for confirmation of authority to submit from a member of staff with sufficient seniority at application stage, eg a Data Protection Officer, a SIRO, a CEO or Director.

Does our Data Protection Officer have to be involved in the application to the Sandbox?

If you have a DPO, we expect that this member of staff will have sufficient knowledge of data protection to be a useful point of contact for us to engage with alongside other members of staff, for example, development teams. As a minimum, we expect that your DPO will be aware of your involvement in the Sandbox.

Do organisations need to pay to participate in the Sandbox?

The Regulatory Sandbox is a free service. Organisations receive access to ICO expertise and support as they develop new services. This supports the UK in its ambition to be an innovative economy and helps to inform future ICO guidance.
